“To win an IHRA championship, it’s a bigger deal,” Collins said. “You have more history than you have with other organizations.”
Alabama International Dragway’s team won the IHRA Division 8 (South) Summit Team Finals in 2023. In addition to the team title, Alabama racers Tucker Kay and Kenny Middlebrooks faced off in the Top (Box) final. Grace Varner joined Kay was a team final winner with the Junior Dragster title, while Dean Staples earned runner-up honors in Mod (No Box).
Other Alabama International Dragway racers earned their way to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering through the track standings. Joel Kittle was the Top (Box) representative, Brooks Stevens won Mod (No Box) and Jalen Price was the Junior Dragster champion.
In addition to the bracket racing, Alabama International Dragway is scheduled to host an IHRA Hot Rod Classic in June. The event will combine great class racing and the ground-pounding Pro Mods that are so popular in that area.
Alabama International Dragway, which is part of the Radial Outlaws series schedule, also hosts truck meets, grudge racing and motorcycle races.
“We’re well versed on handling the radial stuff,” Colins said. “We also will be doing some five-grand and 10-grand races on the bracket side and have the No Prep Kings show coming back in October.”
In addition, they have other Pro Mod races and the popular “Night of Fire” which features Top Fuel dragsters. The 100-acre facility can host both 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile races on an all-concrete surface. Amenities include 10 acres of asphalt pit area, 20 other acres of pit area, concessions and a 10,000-seat bleacher.
