The Holly Ridge, N.C., driver roared down the track in his yellow Nova with black trim to beat hometown racer Lonnie Jackson in Saturday’s final round and claimed a $1,500 winner’s purse. He followed it up by doing it again Sunday when he collected another $1,500, beating Daniel Perry of Sims, N.C., in the championship round.
Jimmy Hodges from Farmville, N.C., also collected $3,000 for his win in Saturday’s Top class. He beat another Jacksonville driver, Jason Leary, in the final round.
Terry Goff Jr. from Beaulaville, N.C., added his name to the list of $3,000 winners with his Sunday victory in the Top class. Continuing the team of hometown races, Michelle Pelo took the runner-up spot.
C.J. Jenkins from Jamesville, N.C., rounded out the list of Saturday winners. Jenkins brought home the special 50th anniversary Ironman trophy with another hometown racer, Austin Tutherow, also reaching the final round.
Tutherow finally broke through for the Jacksonville contingent with his Sunday win in the Junior Dragsters. Cristian Batts of Hampstead, N.C., gave drivers of the Tar Heel State a sweep of the final-round appearances.
The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering will head west for the event. It is scheduled June 11-13 at Onawa (Iowa) Dragway. Round prizes are available to IHRA members in rounds 1-3.
