The Rittman, Ohio racer put together a solid run of 6.591 seconds on a 6.58 dial-in at 103.74 mph and a .035 reaction time to beat Brendon Blakely of Sioux Falls, S.D., in Saturday’s Mod Final. Brenden Blakney finished with a 6.672-second run on a 6.68 dial-in and a .036 reaction time.
Will Zoellner from Logan, Iowa captured Saturday’s Top victory. He ran a 5.183 on a 5.14 dial-in (126.37 mph) along with a .024 reaction time. Jerry Tilson from Plattsmouth, Neb. was runner-up with a 5.254-second effort on a 5.14 dial-in (128.72 mph) on a 5.14-dial in.
The Sportsman race was won by Kirk Breier from Belleview, Neb. on a holeshot. His .010 reaction time set him apart from the .086 posted by runner-up Rick Pitzer from Glenwood, Iowa. Breier’s other numbers included a 7.789-second pass (82.28 mph) on a 7.75 dial-in. Pitzer posted a 7.571 (87.53) on a 7.52 dial-in.
Hometown racer Sydney Richards was able to overcome a slower start in the Junior Dragster final. Richards went down the drag strip in 7.706 seconds (83.04 mph) on a 7.69 dial-in after a .177 reaction time. Max Smiley from Emerson, Iowa was much faster on the light at .011, but came up shot with an 8.200 (68.08 mph) on a 7.95 dial-in.
Soucek doubled up Sunday with his win in the Top class. He was spot-on with a 6.577 run on a 6.57 dial-in at 101.06 mph. Runner-up Bruce Briscoe from Pueblo West, Colo., was quicker on the light .010 to .013, but didn’t match the overall numbers with a. 5.256 run on a 5.22 dial-in at 128.87 mph.
Jason Chapin took the Mod trophy back to the Cornhusker State. He paired a 6.400 pass at 103.35 mph on a 6.36 dial-in with a .011 reaction time. Jack Underwood from Council Bluffs, Iowa finished in 6.024 seconds at 110.11 mph on a 5.98 dial-in, along with a .012 reaction time.
The Sportsman title came down to a pair of Rock Rapids, Iowa racers. Joe McCarty won the holeshot with a .016 to .062 reaction time for Craig Delfs. McCarty went down the track in 7.661 seconds at 83.84 mph on a 7.58 dial-in. Delfs posted an 8.426-second run (83.49 mph) on an 8.36 dial-in.
Bailey Dorneman took the Junior Dragster title with an 8.400-second pass (69.62 mph) on a 7.95 dial-in. Madi Clark from Rittman, Ohio was a tick faster .008 to .009 with the reaction time and posted final-round numbers of an 8.643-second run (74.18 mph) on a 7.91 dial-in.
The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering heads Northeast with a two-day event scheduled at Empire Dragway in Leicester, New York on June 19-20.
