The International Hot Rod Association staff passes on their condolences to the family of Don Schumacher and looks back on an amazing career in drag racing.

Schumacher, who made his mark as one of the best Funny Car racers of the early 1970’s and later became one of the sport’s most successful car owners, died Tuesday night. He was 79.

Schumacher went 5-0 in IHRA Funny Car final rounds with Bristol Dragway the site of some of his greatest wins. He won back-to-back IHRA Spring Nationals in 1971-72 and the All-American Nationals in 1972. He also won the 1971 IHRA Nationals in Dallas and the 1971 U.S. Open Nationals at Rockingham.
