IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals Highlight Long, Successful Partnership

Wednesday, 12 October 2022

HOUSE SPRINGS, Missouri — Summit Racing Equipment and the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) enjoy one of the longest, most successful partnerships in all of motorsports.

That partnership is truly highlighted this week with the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Holly Springs Motorsports. Through the largest program of its kind, racers will compete for IHRA World Championships in Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Sportsman and Junior Dragster classes.

With thousands of racers at nearly 100 IHRA-member tracks participating in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries and $20,000 winner’s purses for the Top and Mod champions, it’s truly the most prestigious national championship in bracket racing.

The IHRA, its racers and tracks truly appreciate the two decades which Summit Racing Equipment has served as the title sponsor. During this time, many of the great champions have expressed their gratitude.

“I think the Summit SuperSeries is the coolest thing in the world,” said Jimmie Barrett, the 2021 Sportsman World Finals runner-up. “For Summit and IHRA to do that is fantastic. IHRA and Summit hands down, takes care of the bracket racers.

“I appreciate that more than they can ever know. Anybody who has went rounds at the IHRA World Finals, knows how great that money is. Even when you get beat first round in IHRA, you feel like you’ve accomplished something. It makes a big difference. To me, IHRA and Summit do an amazing job.”

It’s much more than this week as the support from Summit has led to strong weekly programs at member tracks and great events like the IHRA Summit Team Finals. Terry McMillen, the longtime Nitro racer, recently purchased Bunker Hill Dragway. He sees the IHRA Summit SuperSeries as a great program for the grassroots, Sportsman racer.

“Ultimately with Summit stepping up with what they do with the SuperSeries, they give a good platform for the Sportsman racer to compete in. It’s the best dance in town,” McMillen said.

It’s a sentiment echoed by Kentucky Dragway track operator Aaron Sipple. The track returned to IHRA sanction in 2022 and the Summit SuperSeries program was a major reason.

“I love the Summit SuperSeries, the bracket finals and if you have your ‘X’ number and have met all the requirements, how you qualify for the World Finals,” Sipple said. “When we were talking to our bracket racers, you could see in their eyes, their mannerisms, a feel that IHRA cares about the weekend warrior.”

It’s a history that dates back to 2002 with a single IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Champion Chip Johnson. Now, it’s expanded to multiple classes with 2021 champions George Simpson (Top), Tim Pace (Mod), David Bigham (Sportsman) and Keaton Hudson (Junior).

As new champions are crowned at this week’s IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals in Holly Springs, Mississippi, it’s a time to celebrate the long partnership and all that Summit Racing Equipment does for the IHRA-member racers and tracks.
