Sunday, 23 October 2022

HOUSE SPRINGS, Missouri — It’s easy to have a great time when you make the final round or win a championship at a race. But, International Hot Rod Association officials heard multiple accounts from racers throughout eliminations about what a great time they had at the recent IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Holly Springs Motorsports.

Here are a couple of those of accounts how the racers enjoyed their time in Mississippi.

Virginia driver Glenda Cochran qualified for the World Finals by winning the IHRA Division 1 (Patriots) Summit Team Finals in the Sportsman class. She raced a Pontiac GTO to the third round of eliminations. Despite the weather washing out Saturday, she spoke of the good time at the event.

“Thank you so much for an awesome World Finals weekend! It has been a dream of mine for four years to make it, and it was so cool to be a part of it!,” she sent. “I love being a part of IHRA and am so proud to have gotten to win the D1 Championship this year! Keep doing what you’re doing and I hope I can make it back to Worlds! Y’all even made rain fun!”

Canadian racers were able to compete to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals for the first time since 2019 as COVID-19 restrictions were finally relaxed. Shawn Klassen, the Interlake Dragway Junior Dragster champion, made the 2,200-mile haul from Manitoba to Mississippi. It was well worth it in a message sent to IHRA President Larry Jeffers.

“We are on our way home from an excellent first experience at the World Finals,” wrote Klassen, who made it to the second round of eliminations. “I want to thank you and your staff for the great hospitality, racing and just all-around great event supporting grassroots racing. Between the IHRA staff and track staff, we were thanked so many times for coming and felt so welcomed. Again thanks for the great event, great staff and great hospitality. We hope to be back again and keep up the great work!”

IHRA President Larry Jeffers added, “The International Hot Rod Association has 51 years of history. Today’s racers want to continue that tradition and pass the torch to generations of racers to come. The IHRA truly appreciates our great racers as well as our partners like Summit Racing Equipment and the staff at Holly Springs Motorsports who made the 2022 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals such a memorable experience."

We welcome you to share your own stories from the World Finals on the IHRA Facebook page.
