Onawa Dragway is one of the newest and nicest facilities in the Midwest, first opening in 2018. It’s an all-concrete drag strip with a convenient location near Interstate 29.
Saturday is highlighted by the IHRA Ironman Classic as drivers compete for the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies. Gates open at 10 a.m. with Junior Dragsters to start at noon and the big cars to go down the track at 2 p.m.
The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman trophy if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Final, Sportsman Spectacular or IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.
Sunday’s features another day of bracket races as drivers look to accumulate points towards IHRA Summit SuperSeries track championships and an automatic bid to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Gates open at 8 a.m. Sunday with time trials starting at 9 a.m. Spectator admission is $15 at the gate with kids 12-under admitted free.
The weekend actually kicks off Friday with a “Run what you brung” test-and-tune as well as a bracket-style Gamblers’ race. Tech card for car/driver is $20 plus the gate fee. It’s a $15 gate fee with kids 12-under admitted free.
