Lemker, Sullivan, Clement, Brown and Dorneman Score IHRA Ironman Wins at Thunder Valley Dragways

MARION, S.D. — Four racers from South Dakota and one from Iowa took home trophies from the IHRA Ironman Classic at Thunder Valley Dragways.

Tony Lemker from Lake Park, Iowa headlined the list of winners when his final-round opponent in the Top (Box) class, Terry Koch, fouled at the start. Lemker posted a winning run of 9.523 seconds at 142.81 mph against a 9.49 dial-in. Koch’s quick start negated a potential winning effort of 8.223 seconds against an 8.21 dial-in.

Dustin Sullivan from Mitchell, S.D., has the winning combination of a 10.498-second pass at 126.23 mph with a .034 reaction time. Runner-up Brenden Blakney finished in 9.861 seconds at 137.53 mph with a .044 reaction time.

Chad Clement from Wakonda, S.D., posted a 10.04-second run at 130.93 mph with a .066 reaction time to win the Sportsman final. Del Johnke matched his 12.90 dial-in at 110.29 mph, but was a little slower at the tree with a .104 start.

George Brown from Rapid City, S.D., was more rapid at the start of the Motorcycle final to win on a holeshot .050 to .185 for runner-up Randolph Nixon. Brown then went down the track in 9.21 seconds at 127.41 mph. Nixon finished in 10.151 seconds at 121.33 mph.

The Junior Dragster class completed the list of IHRA Ironman races with Bailey Dorneman from Watertown, S.D. hitting 8.047 seconds at 79.11 mph against a 7.99 dial-in with a .038 reaction time. Runner-up Nolan Masek from Nebraska finished in 8.078 seconds at 79.84 mph against a 7.92 dial-in with a .046 start.
