Bunker Hill Dragstrip Set to Host IHRA Ironman Classic June 15

Monday, 03 June 2024

BUNKER HILL, IN — Racers in the Hoosier State and surrounding areas have the chance to compete for big prizes and the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies when historic Bunker Hill Dragstrip hosts the IHRA Ironman Classic on Saturday, June 15.

Racers in five different classes — Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Motorcycles, Sportsman and Junior Dragster — will compete for the IHRA Ironman trophies. Located a little over an hour north of Indianapolis, Bunker Hill is one of the country’s most storied drag strips, first opened in 1956, making it the oldest dragway in Indiana.

There are $1,000-to-win races for both the Top and Mod classes with $55 entry fees. The Box Motorcycle and Sportsman classes both offer a $500-to-win payout. It costs $55 to enter the Motorcycle race and $35 for Sportsman. The Junior Dragsters are racing for a $250 winner’s purse with a $25 entry. Adding to the value, it’s also an IHRA Summit SuperSeries points race.

The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Finals, Sportsman Spectacular or World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.

Gates open at 11 a.m. with time trials to begin at 1 p.m. and eliminations to follow. Spectator cost is $10 with kids 12-under admitted free.
