One Week Until IHRA Ironman Classic Comes to Amarillo Dragway

Wednesday, 07 August 2024

AMARILLO, TX — The wait is almost over as Amarillo Dragway hosts the IHRA Ironman Classic next weekend on Saturday, August 17.

Racers in the Lone Star State will compete in Super Pro (Box), No Box, Sportsman and Junior Dragster will compete for the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies. Established in 1960, Amarillo Dragway uses the motto, “Where History and Speed Meets.”

There are $2,000-to-win races for both the Box and No Box classes with an $80 entry fee. The Sportsman classes and Junior Dragsters both offer a $500-to-win payout with a $50 entry fee.

The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Finals, Sportsman Spectacular or World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.

Amarillo Dragway hosted an IHRA Ironman Classic in 2023 with Hareford (Box), Tammy Milam Drury (No Box), Gene Bradley (Sportsman) and Hannah Thompson (Junior Dragster) as winners of the prestigious Ironman trophies.

Gates open at 3 p.m. with time trials to begin at 5 p.m. and eliminations to follow.
