Five Racers Capture IHRA Ironman Classic Victories at Albuquerque Dragway

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Five racers went home as winners from the IHRA Ironman Classic held Saturday at Albuquerque Dragway.

Robert Howard (Super Pro), Mike Stewart (Pro), Harley Bull (Sportsman), Mike Corn (Motorcycle) and Maddox Tafoya (Junior Dragster) captured the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies. The races also counted towards the track’s IHRA Summit SuperSeries points program.

Howard posted a run of 5.284 seconds against a 5.28 dial-in to take the Super Pro (Box) victory. Runner-up Mitch Marcy had a .019 reaction time to win the race off the starting line, but came up short with a run of 5.383 seconds against a 5.27 dial-in.

Stewart was also right-on with his 5.866-second pass against a 5.86 dial-in. He also left the tree a little quicker .087 to .116 than runner-up Bill Hess, who broke out with a 7.746-second run against a 7.75 dial-in.

Pro Winner ABQ

Both Sportsman finalists broke out in the final round, but Bull had the better package with a 7.712-second run against a 7.72 dial-in with a .056 reaction time. Robert Matthews went 7.935 seconds against an 8.01 dial-in with a little quicker .046 start.

 Sportsman winner ABQ

Corn harvested the win on the Motorcycles with a 6.945-second elapsed time and a 7.00 dial-in. Ira Flores posted a 6.045-second run against a 6.10 dial-in. Corn had the better start .214 to .365 over Flores.

MC Winner ABQ 

Tafoya won the Junior Dragster final on a holeshot .039 to .176 over Shyanne Burdine. Tafoya needed the good start with a 9.042-second run against an 8.99 dial-in. Burdine was close to her 8.10 dial-in with a pass of 8.110 seconds.

 Jr Winner ABQ

Two tracks — Amarillo Dragway in Texas and Muncie Dragway in Indiana — have IHRA Ironman Classic races scheduled for this Saturday.
