IHRA Remembers Former World Champion Scotty Richardson

Wednesday, 14 August 2024

The International Hot Rod Association remembers Scotty Richardson, considered among the very best bracket racers of all-time. Richardson died Tuesday at age 53.

Richardson, who began his racing career in 1983, was the 2008 IHRA Top Dragster World Champion and a five-time NHRA World Champion. Incredibly consistent at the tree and down the track, he won numerous big races from Florida to California in multiple classes. He won races in different vehicles from dragsters to door cars over a celebrated four-decade career.

His major victories included the Super Rod win at the 2001 IHRA Mopar Performance Parts World Finals at Red River Raceway. The Texas driver thrived in the big-money bracket races like winning the Spring Fling Million main event at Bristol Dragway in 2020 and the All-Star Shootout at the Summer Fling at National Trail Raceway in 2023.

We offer our thoughts and prayers to Richardson’s family, many friends and fans during this time.
