The West Texas track, established in 1966 and located 15 miles from downtown Odessa, has long been an IHRA-member track. There is a busy schedule of events at the West Texas track throughout the year, and the another September they’ve hosted an Ironman Classic.
Mikel McQueen (Box), Sambo Tyra (No Box), Austin Beal (Sportsman), Jeremy Tally (Motorcycle) and Caden Keyes (Junior Dragster) were winners at the track’s 2023 event.
The OTI Electrical Service Electronics Box and Hughes Oilfield Transportation No Box classes pay $1,200 to the winner. Rustan Performance Transmission and Permian Basin Automotive are sponsoring the Sportsman class. Family Powersports is the Motorcycle challenge, while other races include the Danny’s Asphalt Teen Challenge and the Harlow Sammons of Odessa Junior Dragster.
There’s a test-and-tune and Gamblers race scheduled for Friday with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing to start at 7 p.m.
Saturday features the IHRA Ironman Race and also the West Texas Nationals for the Outlaw Fuel Altereds. Gates open at 9 a.m. with a drivers’ meeting at 10:30 a.m., followed by a great day of racing.
