Longtime Top Fuel racer and IHRA veteran Bruce Litton will be trading in the familiar surroundings of an open cockpit and rear engine for something a little different in 2014 – a nostalgia Nitro Funny Car.
The International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) and IRG Sports + Entertainment™ are excited to announce that Clay Millican and Carissa Biele will serve as hosts of the all-new Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series television show airing on MAV TV this fall.
After an unpredictable start to the 2014 season, status quo returned to the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL over the weekend as the top racers from IHRA’s southernmost division returned to the forefront at Carolina Dragway.
For the third year in a row Good Vibrations Motorsports, an industry leader in supercharged and mechanical fuel injection applications, will return as sponsor of some of the International Hot Rod Association’s biggest and most prestigious national events.
The International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) and IRG Sports + Entertainment™ (IRG) are pleased to welcome Todd Silvey as the new managing editor of Drag Review Magazine (DRM).
With more than 20 years of publishing experience, Silvey joins the IHRA team as content and creative director for DRM, which unveiled its all-new look and logo in February. With his expertise and direction, IHRA hopes to continue the growth of the magazine and expand its role as the preeminent source for professional and sportsman racing within the IHRA.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the new vision for IHRA and Drag Review Magazine under the leadership of President Scott Gardner,” noted Silvey. “Our goals for great articles and in-depth race coverage are at the forefront with the new publication redesign. I am certainly looking forward to contributing to that new direction and taking the magazine to new heights.”
The debut of IHRA’s big money no box event, the No Box Fab 5’s, scheduled for this weekend at Pine Valley Raceway has been postponed due to weather.
An impending severe weather advisory and a cold front moving into the area this weekend has created a less than favorable forecast calling for rain throughout the weekend. The IHRA and track management at Pine Valley Raceway have postponed the event to a date later to be announced.
“Due to the terrible forecast and with severe weather advisory’s already in the area, we wanted to do what was in the best interest of our racers and call the race ahead of time,” said Frank Kohutek, IHRA Division Director. “This is an event we are very excited about and we are certainly disappointed it didn’t work out for this weekend, but we will come up with a plan that will benefit all of our great ET racers.”
While this weekend’s action has been postponed, IHRA racing will return to Pine Valley Raceway in two weeks for the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL the weekend of March 14-16.

“This is certainly an exciting time to be a part of the IHRA. In addition to a brand new look for our professional series and a continued commitment to our sportsman racers, we now have a publication that we can proudly show the world – and give our racers the proper coverage they deserve, in a magazine they are excited to receive,” said Scott Gardner, President of IHRA Motorsports. “The new Drag Review Magazine is sleek, it is exciting, and above all else, it is distinctly and proudly IHRA. I think fans, racers and sponsors will look forward to receiving Drag Review each month.”
Two races down, nearly 40 to go.
The 2014 IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL season is officially underway and that means championship races are just starting to heat up. Racers from four of the six divisions made the trip to Immokalee Regional Raceway earlier this month to collect points during one of three Wild Card races currently on the 2014 season schedule.
After an early season test in southern Florida, the season really starts to heat up later this month with races at Carolina Dragway, Pine Valley Raceway and Mooresville Dragway dotting the late February, early March schedule.

He is one of the boldest, loudest and most exciting drivers in the game today. His car name, “Mr. Explosive,” has become more recognized than his actual name. And his talent as a racecar driver speaks for itself. He is Mark Sanders, and he is one of the top contenders on the newly reformatted Nitro Funny Car circuit with the IHRA Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series.
Sanders, from Maple Valley, Washington, has become a major player on the nostalgia scene over the past few years, piloting the immediately recognizable and extremely memorable “Mr. Explosive” machine, primarily on the west coast. Now Sanders will take his talents on tour with the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series in a new Mustang-bodied ride and he is looking to bring his own trophy – just like his beloved Seahawks – back to the northwest.
So what lies in store for the outspoken 52-year-old veteran pilot? We asked him that and a whole lot more as he gears up to make a run at the 2014 IHRA Nitro Funny Car championship alongside some of the most talented Funny Car pilots in North America.
