They turned out to be terrific hosts and certainly left a great impression on the racers who participated. It’s a big reason for celebrating this great 1/8-mile track staying part of the IHRA family through a multi-year sanctioning agreement.
Elk Creek Dragway has been one of the busiest tracks in the country with the IHRA Summit SuperSeries bracket racing program, the most prestigious national championship in the sport.
Last weekend, they hosted the largest Gearjammer race in Elk Creek history with 60 entries.
A testament to the great competition, their racers have won at the highest level with Keaton Hudson, the 2021 IHRA Summit SuperSeries Junior Dragster World Champion.
There is so much that makes the track special starting with the beautiful scenery with the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. They’ve made the track both racer and family friendly with a playground for the kids, plenty of campsites, church services and even letting folks in the community use the property for walking trails when racing isn’t going on.
Walters, a 50-year-plus veteran of the sport, and his staff try to provide the best facility possible from a Compulink timing system, good lighting and lots of blacktop. They focus on cleanliness with trash cans with bags throughout the property, two sets of large restrooms, showers and concessions.
It’s the combination of a welcoming atmosphere, the staff’s efforts to provide the best facility and great competition which bring the racers coming back. Besides the winners of the recent IHRA Summit Team Finals, track representatives scheduled to race at the 2023 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World finals are: Bobby Hash (Top), Hannah Blevins (Mod), Logan Jones (Sportsman) and Will Willard (Junior Dragster).
The International Hot Rod Association encourages racers to visit this great facility if you have a chance.
