Garinger, a New Albany, Pennsylvania driver nicknamed “Sugar Free,” posted a .008 reaction time to earn a sweet win over Bill Balser from Cheektowaga, New York in the final round. Garinger paired his fast start with a 5.156-second run at 130.21 mph on a 5.14 dial-in. Balser finished 5.898 (114.77 mph) on a 5.88 dial-in after a .037 start.
Mike LaRose Jr. scored the victory in the Pro class after his pass of 6.452 seconds at 103.90 mph, along with .038 reaction time. Runner-up Brandon Iamele was quicker at the tree with a .022 reaction time and then had a 6.983-second run at 96.75 mph on a 6.95 dial-in.
Cody Winkowski, a Lancaster, New York racer, was quick at the tree with a .028 reaction time to win the Street title. He made an 8.601-second pass at 77.41 mph on an 8.58 dial-in. Daniel Knab was the runner-up with a 10.264-second run at 70.08 mph on a 10.25 dial-in after a .052 reaction time.
The Basler family got into victory lane with William Basler’s holeshot win in Junior Dragster. Basler had a .081 reaction time to best runner-up Dylan Schwartz. Basler added a run of 8.095 seconds at 78.15 mph on a 8.08 dial-in. Schwartz, who had a 9.05 dial-in, went down the drag strip in 9.095 seconds at 72.45 mph.
Saturday’s late rounds were rained out with the exception of Junior Dragster where PJ Marsten captured the win with a .049 reaction time. He added a 7.969 second pass at 77.29 mph on a 7.92 dial-in. Holly Church was runner-up with an 8.130-second pass at 76.81 mph on an 8.12 dial-in.
There were also a number of round-prize winners Sunday thanks to the support of the IHRA’s valued partners.
Super Pro racers Chuck Peridder and Kathy Kiekel each received $200 Jones Transmission Cooling System certificates. Sam Chatman was the recipient of a $200 certificate from American Race Cars.
Scott Beasaw Jr. picked up a $100 Moser Engineering certificate after Pro Round 1, while the $200 Moser certificates for Rounds 2 and 3 were awarded to Ed Hawkins and John Cira Jr. Street racers Justin Harddan, Zach Beasaw and Ryan Rickatson all picked up certificates courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment.
Jason Reed was awarded a Summit Racing Equipment cover for his Junior Dragster after Round 1 and a certificate from Summit Racing Equipment after Round 3. Brody Hinrich picked up a Summit Racing Equipment cover after Round 2.
The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering next ramps up with two events. There are events scheduled for Union (S.C.) Dragway for June 25-26 and Mo-Kan Dragway for June 26-27.
