September and October feature the busiest time of the year as nine races take place in a five week span all across the country. This weekend, September 11-13, will feature the Division 7 Summit Team Finals presented by AMSOIL at Amarillo Dragway in Texas.

Steve Mueller entered the largest Summit Pro-Am Tour event of the season at Carolina Dragway in need of a solid weekend to break into the top three in points in order to earn a trip to Memphis.  The Pinellas Park, Florida resident and Division 2 competitor just happened to pick the largest Summit Pro-Am event of the season and one that had racers from five different divisions competing at it.

The 2012 International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) World Champion, Jay Turner, is looking to secure his fourth IHRA Championship at the Summit World Finals featuring Nitro Jam on October 9 – 10. Turner has a 67 point lead over Tracy Kile with only one race remaining for the Nitro Harley class this season at Memphis International Raceway.

Barbara Schultz Passes

Barbara Schultz, matriarch of the prolific racing family, passed away on August 23, 2015 after a prolonged illness at the age of 79.

The final stop on the 2015 Summit Pro-Am Tour is shaping up to be the biggest event of the season.  This weekend, Carolina Dragway will host the Summit Pro-Am Tour finale with a triple race weekend.

The Summit SuperSeries presented by AMSOIL held its first of nine world championship events for the 2015 season. Spokane County Raceway hosted the team finals event that not only crowned IHRA champions for the division, but also kicks off the list of qualifiers for the Summit Super Series World Championship at the upcoming Summit World Finals.  That event will crown a World Champion in Box, No Box and Junior Dragster categories. The Summit Super Series run-off regional champion from each of the division finals will go to Memphis International Raceway, October 9-10, 2015 for the culminating event.

“Nitro” Nick Boninfante Sr. passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. He is survived by his daughter Jodi, and sons, Nicky and Rob. The sons carry on the Boninfante Friction Inc. racing clutch business.

The Summit Racing Equipment Pro Am tour event scheduled at Empire Dragway will be run 1/8 mile.  The Box/No Box combo race scheduled for Saturday Night will remain 1/8 mile and the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series will also be contested 1/8 mile.

The IHRA Summit Series Pro-Am concluded on Sunday with another complete race program following one round of time trials and qualifications. It would be another scorcher in the central Texas sun as drivers in the 10 Pro-Am classes fought it out on the ¼ mile strip near San Antonio.

After a full evening of practice the IHRA Summit Pro-Am drivers were ready to begin the day with two rounds of qualifying and time trials for all classes. Once that was done it was time to lay it on the line, literally and figuratively, for eliminations on the ¼ mile track, vying the Ironman award.
