Cliff Hubbard was congratulated by his brother-in-law, six-time IHRA Top Fuel World Champion Clay Millican, after winning Sunday’s Super Pro race at Holly Springs Motorsports Park. Hubbard, whose wife Leigh is also a champion racer, drove his dragster to the win over runner-up David Elam.

The action kicked off with the Friday Night City 64 race with Zach Combs the winner and Charley Denny runner-up. Saturday featured a full day of racing with Justin Gaffney the winner in Top ET and Chris Moore his final-round opponent. There was another strong showing from the Combs family as Laine Blackburn won in Modified and “Lil” Phil Combs was runner-up.

Adkins had his own thrill ride over the weekend with his brown Chevrolet Camaro racing to back-to-back Mod wins at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries season opener at Dragway 42. It was a slightly better start that proved the difference on Saturday as he and final-round opponent Amy Reed were both right on their dial-in times. Turning the page, he took advantage of Mark Provost being a little too quick on the light to win Sunday’s race.

The Memorial Day race features guaranteed $2,000-to-win Super Pro and No Box races. There’s a $1,000 guaranteed purse for the Sportsman class winner. Syers, who died in January, was an inspiration to those who knew her. She was a champion racer despite battling cancer.

Most of the drag strips throughout the region got by without major damage. The same can’t be said for the neighboring areas with many losing their homes, other property and in the worst cases, the loss of life.
