International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) officials announced today the cancellation of the IHRA World Nationals event and the Summit Pro-Am Tour scheduled at Dragway 42 due to construction delays. The IHRA Drag Racing Series will host their championship event at US 131 Motorsports in Martin, Michigan August 12 – 13, 2016.

The IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour made its second stop at Piedmont Dragway in the 2016 season, and the field yielded some excellent runs. No drivers took home multiple Ironmen, but the local drivers did well: seven North Carolina racers were victorious. Mike White won the Good Vibrations Top Sportsman, and Matthew McDaniel picked up a Top Dragster win.

The former Pittsburgh Raceway Park, known for racer hospitality and a family friendly atmosphere, will welcome the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour July 8-10. The double race weekend will count as an "in division" claim for both Patriots and North Stars competitors.

The IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour was rained out a few weeks ago at Darlington, but drivers were able to ply their trade at the nearby Piedmont Dragway in a makeup date, and it turned out to be a very competitive slate – ten different drivers won Ironmen, and no drivers even made more than one semifinal. Mike White won high honors at the Good Vibrations Top Sportsman winner, and Joseph Bagwell brought home the Top Dragster victory.

Benny Smith had a weekend that most drivers only dream about during the Mopar Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex.  Smith, from Lasalle Ontario, wheeled his American Race Cars machine to a triple victory capturing Good Vibrations Top Dragster honors both Saturday and Sunday as well as winning the Top ET class of the bracket program.  Smith was a perfect 16-0 for the weekend.

It was a very happy Father’s Day weekend for the IHRA Summit Pro-Am Division 4 series, as racers from three states rolled into Pine Valley (Texas) Raceway to compete in 11 different categories of drag racing. Fittingly, fathers and sons (and daughters) found themselves in the winner’s circle, as Matt and Jake Levatino (Top Dragster), and Vernon and Brittany Rowland (Hot Rod and Super Rod) all won Ironmen. Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. outdueled his dad Jimmy Sr. for Stock and Super Stock wins, while Shannon Brinkley doubled in the weekend’s Quick Rod races. In all, 18 different drivers won Ironmen.

The 2016 Division 9 Summit Pro-Am Tour Event scheduled at Union County Dragway on July 8-10 will now be contested during the Carolina Dragway event in September.

Rolling Mix Concrete Raceway located within NITRO Motorsports Park in Prince George, British Columbia, has become the latest IHRA-sanctioned drag racing complex in Canada. The park, which opened in 1978 as North Central Motorsports Park, was recently purchased by the NITRO club (Northern Interior Timed Racing Organization), a group of racers located in and around Prince George. Brian Barby is a longtime driver and president of the club. He’s been involved with track operations for the last few years.

Top Dragster competitor Jason Parker pulled off a double victory in Good Vibrations Top Dragster action in the Summit Pro-Am Tour portion of the President’s Cup Nationals at Maryland International Raceway over the weekend.

Attention, Top Class and Mod Class racers: If you're on the fence about competing in the Summit SuperSeries, see if this pushes you off the fence. The national champions in the Top and Mod classes have an opportunity to win a vacation to Aruba at the Summit World Finals in Memphis Tennessee, October 21-23. The champions will receive a weeklong vacation, courtesy of the Don Flip Racing Team.
